Senior Systems Admin – Backend Server-Side Maintenance

JobsEngine is recruiting Senior Systems Admins (backend server-side maintenance) for promising job opportunities in the EU. Ideal candidates will have skills and qualifications from the following list of requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 3-7 years’ experience in a large HP-UX and/or Sun Solaris Unix environment
  • Experience in Backup and DR design and processes
  • Ability to debug and modify C programs
  • Hands-on experience with various technologies including, Linux – RedHat, CentOS
  • Ability to install and configure systems and layered software unassisted
  • Experience with Firewalls such as Checkpoint and VPN’s
  • Proficiency with network concepts and utilities including NFS, NIS, DNS, TCP/IP, etc
  • Advanced proficiency with monitoring tools such as Glance, Perfview, Top and ITO
  • Advanced shell scripting and programming skills (KSH, TCL/Tk, PERL, AWK)
  • Thorough knowledge of HP and Sun hardware
  • Experience in a SAN or NAS based environment
  • Experience with EMC and/or HP disk arrays, switches, and hubs, and attendant software such as BCV and SRDF
  • Experience with clustering software and techniques, packages and package failover
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills


Ideal candidates will be expected to perform tasks from the following list of responsibilities:

  • Ongoing maintenance and support of the IT infrastructure
  • Supporting all the virtualized and physical servers and administering the OS and core applications
  • Providing 24 x 7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members
  • Providing advanced troubleshooting for applications and systems
  • Providing senior level technical support for Unix related project activities
  • Building and modifying systems to meet project and user requirements
  • Participating in design and code reviews
  • Providing mentoring to fellow administrators
  • Evaluating hardware and software requirements and influencing purchase decisions
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of IT standards and procedures
  • Configuring and tuning hardware and software to insure optimum performance and resource utilization
